Late actor Irrfan Khan was known for his incredible screen presence and his son Bilal is carrying forward his legacy. The young actor won his first award at the IIFA event in Abu Dhabi for his debut film ‘Kala’. Babil shared the Best Debut (Male) award with ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ fame Shantanu Maheshwari. Sutapa Sikdar walked the green carpet with Babil at the IIFA Awards on Saturday and said her son’s achievement has made her happy and emotional. He told PTI-language, “It feels very good. I think great is a general word, it touches the (heart) here.

Irrfan passed away at the age of 54 in April 2020 after a battle with a rare type of cancer. Sutapa said that the late actor decided to keep his two sons Babil and Ayaan away from the limelight.

Sutapa said, “Irrfan was not very fond of taking the kids to award functions. He completely kept them away from the limelight. So he hardly went to any award functions.” Was at the Spirit Awards in America in 2008.

Irrfan was nominated for the Best Supporting Male award for his performance in Mira Nair’s critically acclaimed drama “The Namesake”. The IIFA Awards and Weekend were organized in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading curator of immersive destinations and experiences.
