Kingston, Jamaica: Ireland thrashed West Indies by five wickets in a rain-hit second One Day International at Sabina Park on Thursday.
Ireland were chasing 230 for victory and were well ahead of the run rate at 157-4 in the 32nd over when rain stopped play for 90 minutes.
When the match resumed, the Duckworth–Lewis method reduced Ireland’s score to 168 in 36 overs, or 11 runs from 28 balls. The Irish knocked him out in seven balls to win a pair of no balls at 168-5.
Vijay leveled the series 1-1 with the deciding ODI at the same ground on Sunday.
This ODI was rescheduled from Tuesday, when Ireland were left with little to field a side due to five coronavirus cases and two injured players. Four were unavailable on Thursday, including captain Andy Balbirnie.
West Indies successfully defended 269 runs last Saturday but did not score 229 runs, adding 30 extra runs.
William Porterfield and stand-in captain Paul Stirling gave Ireland a quick start to 37 runs in the first five overs.
Harry Tector started the show with an unbeaten 54 off 75 balls, his second consecutive half-century and fourth in his last five ODIs.
Tector pictured in a stand of 44 with Andy McBrine, who added 35, and 53 with Curtis Camper.
McBrine also acted with the ball when West Indies were called to bat first.
West Indies were alert from the start and medium pacer Craig Young took advantage of the first three wickets cheaply. He scored 3-12 runs in four overs by dismissing openers Shai Hope, Justin Greaves and No. 3 Nicholas Pooran.
McBrine’s offspin was introduced in the 18th over with West Indies at 53-3, and he claimed Roston Chase on Kieron Pollard for 1.
Sharma Brooks, who scored 93 in the first ODI, put the innings together again until he was dismissed lbw for 43 off 64 balls while attempting to sweep left-arm spinner George Dockrell.
West Indies didn’t look like reaching 200 at 143-7 in the 40th, but Odion Smith immediately hit two sixes to the head of McBrine, hit two more against Camper, and swung Mark Adair over long off fence. Smith scored 46 runs in 19 balls in a 58-run partnership with Romario Shepherd to take West Indies past 200.
Shepherd then hit four boundaries and was the last man with two overs to spare while trying to pull off McBrine, who scored 4-36.
