Tehran has repeatedly vowed to avenge the killing of Soleimani, the head of foreign operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a US drone strike at Baghdad airport in January 2020.

An Iranian general warned that his country is still seeking to kill former US President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in revenge for the killing of top commander Qasem Soleimani.

Tehran has repeatedly vowed to avenge the killing of Soleimani, the head of foreign operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a US drone strike at Baghdad airport in January 2020.

“We hope we can kill Trump, Pompeo, (former US General Kenneth) McKenzie and the military commanders who ordered the killing of Soleimani”, General Amirali Hajizadeh, commander of the Guards’ aerospace unit, said on television late Friday.

Trump ordered the strike in response to a series of attacks on US interests in Iraq, which his administration blamed on Iran.

A few days later, Iran retaliated by firing missiles at a US airbase in Iraq that had US troops stationed there. No one was killed, but Washington said dozens suffered traumatic brain damage.

The United States and its allies have repeatedly expressed concern about Iran’s ballistic missile program as well as its “destabilizing” role in the Middle East.

In his televised remarks, Hajizadeh said that Iran was “now capable of hitting American ships at a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,243 mi)”.

The Iranian general said, “We set this limit of 2,000 kilometers for the honor of the Europeans and we hope that the Europeans will show themselves worthy of this honor.”

On Saturday, Iranian state television aired a video of a newly unveiled “Paveh cruise missile” with a range of 1,650 kilometers (1,025 mi) developed by the Guards.

Iran is likely to provide Syria with a 15-Khordad surface-to-air missile system to “strengthen” its defensive capabilities, the official broadcaster reported on Friday.
