Royal Challengers Bangalore returned to winning ways with a clinical 23-run win over Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday. It was a supreme bowling performance from the RCB bowlers as they managed to defend the below par target of 175 quite comfortably at Chinnaswamy’s. It was a collective effort from RCB to hand Delhi Capitals their fifth consecutive defeat in the second half of the game.

While it was a horror start for Delhi Capitals as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the first over itself. Shaw, who did not feature in the starting XI, was used as an impact player at the start of the chase. The flamboyant opener pushed the fourth ball of the first over over cover where Rawat dived to intercept the ball and did not waste much time in flicking the ball at the bowler’s end as a direct hit ended Shaw’s stay.

Delhi then kept losing wickets as Mitchell Marsh was also dismissed for a duck in the second over by Wayne Parnell. It didn’t stop there as young Yash Dhull became the victim of Mohammed Siraj in the very next over for just 1. Captain David Warner tried to stabilize the Capitals’ chase but was dismissed by debutant Vaishak in the final over of the powerplay.

Seasoned campaigner Manish Pandey showed some fighting spirit with a fine half-century but didn’t get enough support from the other end. In-form Axar Patel also scored 24 but RCB chased down Delhi Down taking wickets at regular intervals.

He managed to stabilize the RCB innings after the departure of Faf du Plessis but failed to convert the half-century into a triple-figure score. He got out just after Fifty. It was a juicy full toss from Lalit Yadav that tempted Kohli to play a big shot but he failed to time it and was caught by Dhull near the boundary ropes.

Meanwhile, it was the third half-century of the season for Kohli as he has already crossed the 200-run mark this season.

Kuldeep Yadav removed Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik off back-to-back deliveries to put RCB on the backfoot.

DC spin trio of Kuldeep (4-1-23-2), Axar Patel (3-0-25-1) and Lalit Yadav (4-0-29-1) picked up the pace in the middle overs as RCB looked to finish I failed. Big in the slog overs and scored 174/6 which proved enough for them in the end.
