This was Vijay Shankar’s fourth half-century in IPL but it was indeed the most impressive

Gujarat Titans all-rounder Vijay Shankar hit a blistering half-century during the Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. Shankar smashed a 21-ball half-century to help Titans post a massive 204/4 in 20 overs. It was Shankar’s fourth half-century in the IPL but it was indeed the most impressive as he tore apart the KKR bowlers during his unbeaten 63.

The 32-year-old hit four fours and five sixes during his blistering knock, which also included a hat-trick of sixes in the final over of the innings.

Shankar brought up his half-century with a six off the third ball of the final over and did not stop there as he ensured that Titans crossed the 200-run mark in front of their home fans. Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Fans on Twitter were impressed with Shankar’s blistering innings.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans’ young top-order batsman Sai Sudarshan continued his scintillating form with the bat as he scored an intelligent 53 off 38 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Earlier, he helped his team win by playing a brilliant inning of 62* runs against Delhi Capitals in the last match.

Shankar provided the finishing touch in the 19th over as he went for a six off Ferguson’s pull off. He then bowled a wide delivery over short third man for four and ended the 25-run over with a clean loft over long-off for six.

Shankar talked about the poor performance in the last few seasons of IPL and said that Gujarat Titans have shown faith in him by retaining him for this season.

“Enjoying (this season) very much. Last year something was off. This year I came after scoring a lot of runs at home. The franchise retained me, showed faith in me. The support staff has been helping me a lot since the time we started our camp here. Have worked very hard. It was difficult. I got injured in the World Cup. Did not perform well in one or two seasons of IPL. It is very important for us to keep doing well at any level. If we keep doing well then playing for the country will happen automatically. I want to thank the trainers and physios at NCA and here as well. I had a surgery after the last IPL and was out for a few months,” he said after his fifty against KKR.
