IPL 2022 may be completely scheduled in Mumbai and Pune due to rising COVID cases: Report

As the Covid-19 cases continue to rise, the BCCI is planning to stage the entire Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) in the state of Maharashtra. It is also reported that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar has given his approval and necessary permission will be taken in the coming days.

TOI reports that BCCI is planning to host IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium near Pune.

If the Covid surge continues in Maharashtra, the IPL may also be shifted to the UAE.

Pawar has given his nod to BCCI’s proposal. During this week or in the next 10 days, he, BCCI and MCA officials will ask Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and State Chief Secretary Debashish Chakraborty to arrange necessary permissions. In this regard. There should be no problem on this front, as the tournament will be played in a strict bio bubble without crowds, and players and officials will be tested frequently,” a source told TOI.

Maharashtra (40, 925) and Mumbai (20, 971) are seeing an increase in the number of Covid cases, with the Maharashtra government allowing sporting events if the rules are followed.

As per the Maharashtra government’s latest order, “Sports events are to be postponed except at national and international level competitions, which are already scheduled: 1: No rush, 2: Bio-bubble for all players and officials. 3: Government of India rules will be applicable for all participating international and domestic players. 4: RT-PCR/RAT every third day for all players and officials.”

A source said, “As of now, the plan is to stage the IPL in India. However, if Maharashtra’s option is also ruled out in future, the BCCI may be forced to move the IPL again to the UAE. “
