IPL 2022: ‘Looks Awesome’, Says Andre Russell After Helping KKR Smash PBKS

Andre Russell felt “awesome” hitting those eight monster sixes against Punjab Kings as he always knew what to do when KKR’s score was run down to 51 for four.

Russell scored an unbeaten 70 off 31 balls and what seemed like a difficult chase at one point, ended in an opposing climax as the big Jamaican introduced Max into the stands.

“Feeling great, that’s why we play the game. In that situation, I know what I can do,” Russell said after the match.

Russell had indicated to his partner Sam Billings that once he warmed up well enough, he would go in for the shots.

“It was nice to have someone like Sam at the crease who can rotate and help us deal with the tough times. Once I started sweating, I just said I was going to leave. I held back to my potential and that’s what I did tonight. I am happy to have the team on the line.”

The strategy was to watch Rahul Chahar’s spell as there was no threat to left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.

“I knew we were two guys who would definitely try to get a partnership. I said to Sam, ‘Listen, let’s just bat a few overs and see what happens.’ But we had to attack first because the left arm orthodoxy was not spinning the ball and nothing was happening.

“So we decided to take charge from one end and try to get singles from the other end. Chahar was bowling very well, as well as was gripping. We didn’t want to take too many chances against him. We knew it would be easy. I am going to say one (when he was asked how many came out of the middle).”

Russell hasn’t been bowling much and suffered a shoulder injury in the last game but skipper Shreyas Iyer is happy if he wants him to do so.

“I am happy to do whatever the team wants,” he said. I want to bowl at death. If the captain wants me to bowl one in the powerplay, I will be happy to do that, but we have a good number of bowlers. We’ve got a few guys who can really chip in even a second or two.

“I know I won’t bowl four in some matches but if I bowl at least two overs, I can feel part of the game and feel like an all-rounder,” he said. These things happen, some games are going to be easy and I can’t bowl.”

As you age, you need to work harder on fitness: Umesha

Umesh Yadav, who has been a revelation in this edition after playing two games in the last two seasons, said it is his work ethic that has propelled him forward.

“I need to work harder. Aging and when you know when you play just one format I want to bowl more and more. When someone improves in practice, it is during the match as well. does well

“I have practiced with my coaches because of what is happening now. If you bowl at 140kmph you need to be precise, you need to bowl at the stumps.”
