IPL 2022: Enrique Nortje dropped as Delhi Capitals face Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders, who are on a high, won the toss against Delhi Capitals and elected to bowl first in Game 19 of the Indian Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. There is no change in the Shreyas Iyer-led side and why not, they have built it up after a string of wins. Meanwhile, Delhi made a change, and made a big change, as they dropped Enrique Nortje and brought in none other than Khaleel Ahmed in his place.

“We will bowl first. When I came in, touched the surface, it was quite hard. It’s even got grass. I think it will get even better in the second innings. The boys are doing really well, it is important that we maintain consistency. For the captain, such a wonderful bunch is really cool. Same team,” Iyer said.

He said, ‘There is no problem in batting first on this wicket. The wicket looks great. It’s frustrating when you lose close matches but you have to learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward. Definitely a big relief – no dew. one change – Nortje Out, Khaleel InDelhi captain Pant said.

Iyer, one of the architects of the Delhi franchise’s resurgence in the IPL, was replaced as the team’s captain last season after missing the first half due to injury, leading them to their maiden final in 2020. The franchise did not retain the 27-year-old, who was picked by KKR in the auction.

Under his captaincy, Knight Riders top the league with six points from four matches, their only loss being against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Capitals, on the other hand, have suffered consecutive defeats after winning starts and are in seventh place.

Both Pant and Iyer are considered to be India’s future captains and it will be interesting to see how both of them perform. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman must be feeling the pressure, having won just one game so far.

After losing to another new team, Gujarat Titans, Capitals lost a close match to new entrants, Lucknow Super Giants.
