IPL 2022: BCCI announces Rs 1.25 crore reward for curator and groundsman

Describing him as an “unsung hero”, the BCCI on Monday announced a prize money of Rs 1.25 crore for the curator and groundsman who worked during the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

New entrants Gujarat Titans captured the winners’ trophy after beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the summit clash on Sunday night.

“I am delighted to announce INR 1.25 Crore prize money for the men who gave us the best games in #TATAIPL 2022. Unsung Hero – Our Curator & Groundsman across 6 IPL This season,” Shah said in a tweet.

“We have seen some high octane games and I would like to thank each of them for their hard work. 25 lakhs each for CCI, Wankhede, DY Patil and MCA, Pune. 12.5 lakhs each for Eden And Narendra Modi Stadium.”

For the first time, the BCCI is giving huge incentives to the groundsmen.

70 league matches of the cash-rich league were played at four venues in Maharashtra – Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.

The play-offs were played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Although, The Times of IndiaAn unnamed curator was quoted as saying that the money is intended to be deposited directly into the groundsman’s accounts.

“We are happy with this news. However, the BCCI should transfer the money directly to the groundsmen and curators’ accounts and not to the state associations,” TOI quoted the official as saying.
