India’s performance during the first Test against England at Trent Bridge has impressed Pakistan batting great Inzamam-ul-Haq, who says that despite the fight-backs shown by the hosts, Virat Kohli’s men’s five-match series Remains ‘favourite’ to win the series.

Inzamam reviewed the competition on his YouTube channel, pointing to highlights of the first drawn test. He is particularly impressed with how India is doing well in different conditions.

Inzamam said, ‘I think India will be a strong contender in this Test series. “I feel this way because of the youth who have recently arrived in the last two years. The best feature of most of these young players is that they are performing well in all conditions. There was a time when Indians used to play well at home but not that well in overseas tours.

India needed 157 runs on the fifth and final day of the first Test, with nine wickets remaining, when rain washed away the entire day’s play, resulting in a draw. After bowling out England for 183, India were all out for 278 and thus took a viral first innings lead.

In their second dig, England got the better of captain Joe Root with a century to set India on 209 for victory. The second test match between India and England is to be played from August 12 to August 16.
