International Yoga Day: The 8th International Day of Yoga was celebrated across the world by yoga enthusiasts as the event returned to an individual format after more than two years post the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year the event was marked under the theme “Yoga for Humanity”.

International Yoga Day was also celebrated at Delhi’s Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, one of the most visited tourist destinations in the national capital.

Akshardham Temple said in a tweet, Yoga, India’s most cherished cultural heritage, is a gift to the world for the global cause of health and wellness for all.

PM Modi doing yoga at Mysore Palace

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday performed yoga with thousands of participants in a mass demonstration in the backdrop of the iconic Mysore Palace, saying physical fitness regimes are becoming the basis of cooperation between countries, and could become a problem- solver

Leading the main event of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), Modi said that yoga brings peace to our universe and gives humanity the hope of a healthy life.

Quoting sages, sages and acharyas, Modi said, “Yoga brings peace to us, peace through yoga is not only for individuals, yoga brings peace to our society, nation, world and universe.”

NDMC organizes yoga programs at 75 places in Delhi

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organized events at 75 places on Tuesday on the occasion of International Day of Yoga.

The main event was held at Charkha Park in Connaught Place where Lt Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena along with NDMC President Bhupinder Singh Bhalla and Vice President Satish Upadhyay performed common yoga protocols.

Apart from Connaught Place, NDMC also organized Yoga Day programs at Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Singapore Park, Sanjay Lake, Commonwealth Park and many other places in the capital.

Programs were organized in 45 NDMC schools and many other places like parks, gardens, working women’s hostels and Resident Welfare Association (RWA).

The NDMC collaborated with Art of Living at Nehru Park, Gayatri Parivar at Talkatora Garden and Patanjali at Lodhi Garden for the Yoga Day performance.

To facilitate participation in the Yoga Day celebrations, NDMC made necessary arrangements for civic and basic amenities including potable water, mobile toilets, ambulances and first aid desks, along with providing mats and T-shirts.

Nearly staff manpower was deployed by NDMC under the supervision of 100 nodal officers at all the places where more than 20,000 participants performed the general protocol of yoga.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech from Mysore in Karnataka was also telecast live on LED screens at five locations.
