Coimbatore: The work of inserting ballot papers into the balloting units of electronic voting machines for the Coimbatore corporation election began at five places in the city on Friday.
Officials said the insertion of ballot papers began at New Sidhapudur Corporation School (north zone), Ramakrishnapuram Girls Corporation School (east zone), Nehru Aeronautical Science College at Kuniyamuthur (south zone), SRP Ammaniammal Girls School at RS Puram (west zone) and Ranganathapuram Corporation School (central zone).
As many as 1,290 polling booths will be set up in 287 polling stations to elect councillors for 100 wards of the corporation. Each polling booth will have no more than 1,400 voters.
Corporation commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara said the work of inserting ballot papers will be completed by Saturday evening. The third level of randomization of EVMs was completed in the presence of representatives of political parties.
Meanwhile, election officials from the city corporation and district administration have started issuing booth slips to voters. Election observer for Coimbatore district Har Sahay Meena inspected election preparedness in Pollachi municipality. He instructed officials to start distribution of booth slips.
The counting of votes will take place at Government College of Technology on Thadagam Road.
