INS Mormugao has been designed by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy and developed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Mumbai.

Mormugao-P15B was commissioned into the Indian Navy today. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned it at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. It is a stealth guided missile destroyer, 75% of which is indigenously built.

According to the Indian Navy, it is the second ship of the P-15 Bravo class. The P-15B comprises four ships Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Surat and Imphal. Imphal and Sural will soon join the Navy.

Besides the Defense Minister, CDS General Anil Chauhan, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, Goa CM Pramod Sawant attended the commissioning event.

Ship named after Goa
This warship has been named after the port city of Goa. Mormugao made her maiden voyage on December 19 last year, when Goa celebrated 60 years of independence from Portuguese rule. Its commissioning also took place on the eve of Goa Liberation Day on 18 December. The ship is 163 meters in length and 17 meters in breadth and has a displacement of 7,400 tonnes.

INS Mormugao is the most powerful warship ever built in India. Although its radar cross section (RCS) has been reduced due to better stealth features.
