The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said at least 13 people were killed and 98 others injured in a massive explosion on Sunday’s Mount Semeru in Indonesia.

BNPB spokesman Abdul Muhri said, “Two bodies have been identified, while the search is on for the others.” All the injured, including two pregnant women, are currently undergoing treatment at nearby health centres.

Meanwhile, 902 people have been moved to a village hall, a school building and houses of worship. Volcanic ash has buried several houses, roads and a bridge, Xinhua news agency reported.

Officials are digging the ash covering the road using heavy equipment, while evacuating and searching for missing persons. The 3,676 meter high volcano erupted at 3:10 pm on Saturday, Jakarta time. The hot clouds stopped falling because of the rain. Officials urged people not to go near rivers on which lava is flowing.
