The March-winning partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur (33 off 42 balls) and Richa Ghosh (44 off 32 balls) eventually helped India bring down the target of 119 runs in 18.1 overs.

Team India Recorded second consecutive win in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday, February 15. The Indian side beat West Indies by 6 wickets in a crucial Group B fixture at Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town. India’s impressive performance with the ball restricted West Indies to just 118 runs. But apart from the cricketing action, the match also made headlines thanks to the unique drinks break during West Indies’ innings. The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared excerpts from the unusual break tee on its official Instagram page. The video begins with a substitute player bringing a tray full of fruits onto the field. On-field cricketers including Smriti Mandhana, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, fast bowler Renuka Singh and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh came running to the fruit tray.

Coming back to the game, West Indies lost their skipper Hayley Mathews early in the innings as Pooja Vastrakar dismissed her for just 2 runs in the second over. After initial jitters, Stafanie Taylor and Shaiman Campbell put together a well-constructed innings, building a crucial 73-run partnership. India’s spinner Deepti Sharma, who wrapped up the game with three wickets, dismissed the pair in the 14th over.

While Taylor missed his half-century by 8 runs, Campbell contributed 30 runs to the scoresheet. After his dismissal, it was nothing but a come-and-go situation for the other Caribbean batsmen as they ended their innings at 118 for the loss of 6 wickets towards the end.

India’s opener Shafali Verma started the innings well and scored 28 runs in 23 balls. However, Mandhana, who missed the Pakistan game due to a finger injury, failed to make a mark in her debut match of this T20 World Cup. She spent little time at the crease and managed only 7 runs. Aided by a match-winning partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur (33 off 42 balls) and Richa Ghosh (44 off 32 balls), India chased down the target in 18.1 overs.

In their upcoming assignment, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. will lock horns against powerhouse England on February 18 at the St George’s Park.
