Indian Super League: Sajid Dhote to continue with Chennaiyin FC after signing two-year contract

Two-time Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC on Saturday signed defender Mohammad Sajid Dhote with a new two-year contract that keeps him at the club till 2024.

The 24-year-old had an impressive performance in the six matches he played for the club in the second half of the ISL last season.

He made 17 tackles and four interceptions in the starting XI in all six matches. Dhot also demonstrated his ability to score once. He spent 496 minutes on the pitch before the club was ruled out of the last six league games due to a muscle injury.

And now after getting the extension, the Punjab-born footballer will be desperate to continue his stellar form in the upcoming season as well.

Dhot was part of the Indian team that finished runners-up in the 2018 South Asian Football Federation Championship. Apart from playing one game for the senior national team, he represented the country in all age groups up to the Under-19s.

Before joining Chennaiyin FC, Dhote, a product of the AIFF Elite Academy, was part of the founding of Odisha FC, formerly known as Delhi Dynamos, for four seasons of the ISL. He has appeared in 23 matches since making his debut in 2018.

He has played 37 matches in his professional career so far which includes four I-League games for DSK Shivajivians FC.
