Indian Railways Cancels Trains To Bengaluru Airport; Passengers Anguished

South Western branch of Indian Railways has canceled MEMU train express train running from Kempegowda International Airport railway station. This decision has been taken by the transporter keeping in view the less number of passengers on the route. As Money Control reports, the occupancy rate on the route is falling below 5 percent, and it is facing an acute shortage of crew members. However, the decision of the Indian transporter is not going down well with the traveling passengers.

According to the report, the cancellation rate of trains increased immediately after the Karnataka assembly elections. The report comes at a time when the number of passengers going to Kempegowda International Airport has increased and they are facing congestion and rising prices. Passengers traveling on the route are grappling with these changes and are expressing their displeasure on social media sites.

Some other trains include 6382 Kolar – Bengaluru Cantonment Express (Cancelled between Vyappanahalli and Cantonment), 06387 KSR Bengaluru – Kolar (Cancelled between KSR Bengaluru and Byappanahalli), 06388 Kolar – Bengaluru Cantonment (Cancelled between Vyappanahalli and Bengaluru Cantonment), and 06381 covers Bengaluru Cantonment – Kolar (Cancelled between Bengaluru Cantonment and Byappanahalli).

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which manages KIA, said there has been an increase in the number of visitors to the airport. With a total of 31.91 million passengers passing through the airport, Bengaluru airport registered an increase in passenger numbers as compared to the previous financial year. During this time, 3.78 million international passengers and 28.12 million domestic passengers made up the total.

Compared to FY22 to FY23, the domestic sector grew by 85%, while the overseas sector saw a growth of 245%. With 114,299 people traveling through the airport on February 26, 2023, it recorded the highest number of passengers for FY23 and the highest number of passengers in a single day since its opening in 2008.
