Of the 1.84 lakh applicants who submitted applications for Haj, 14,935 were given confirmed allotment, including 10,621 in the category for those aged 70 and above and 4,314 for women performing Haj without a “mehram” (male companion). In a statement from the government, this is the largest group of women traveling alone. It added that applications received in excess of the Haj limit were decided using the Online Random Digital Selection (ORDS) process. To enhance openness, the statement said that for the first time the list of selected and waitlisted candidates was posted on the official portal immediately after the selection process.
Each of the 1.4 lakh pilgrims selected received a text message informing them of their selection for Haj 2023.
