India will launch a campaign for ‘precautionary supplements’ from January 10. Know how to register on CoWIN

New Delhi: As the country sees a rise in COVID-19 cases and fears of the new variant Omicron spread, ‘precautionary doses’ are becoming more and more necessary. Registration for this dose of COVID-19 vaccine for healthcare workers, frontline workers and people aged 60 years and above with co-morbidities began on the CoWIN portal on Saturday evening, January 8.

The exercise of providing precautionary supplements to these categories of beneficiaries will start from January 10. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said there is no need for fresh registration for the beneficiaries of the precautionary COVID-19 vaccine dose.

The Union Health Ministry said, “The schedule will be published on January 8. The facility of online appointment will also be started by Friday evening. Vaccination with onsite appointment will start from January 10.”

How to book appointment?

To book an appointment, please visit the CoWIN website or app. However, there is no need for fresh registration of those taking the precautionary dose and they can make an appointment on Saturday or walk-in directly, the Union Health Ministry had said.

Who are all the characters?

The central government had earlier informed that any person aged 60 years or more with co-morbidities would not be required to produce or produce any certificate from his/her doctor at the time of administration of the precautionary dose. Beneficiaries are expected to consult their doctor before deciding to avail the precautionary dose or the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

As per the guidelines issued, the eligibility of such beneficiaries for the precautionary dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as entered in the CoWIN system (end of 9 months i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose). by the Ministry. CoWIN will send reminder messages to all those who are eligible for the precautionary dose and the dose will be reflected in the digital immunization certificates.
