India and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday discussed possibilities of closer judicial cooperation during the first visit of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana to the Gulf country.

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi tweeted that Justice Ramana held a meeting with UAE Minister of Justice Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi and Mohammed Hamad Al Badi, Chairman of the Federal Supreme Court of the UAE.

India’s Ambassador to UAE Sanjay Sudhir was present during the meeting.

This is the first visit of CJI to UAE.

“In the presence of Hon. Justice Mrs. Hima Kohli, and Justice Abdul Rahman Al Balushi, issues relating to Indian Diaspora were discussed in close judicial cooperation between India and UAE. The CJI’s historic visit will foster a shared vision, The Indian mission said in a tweet.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Indian community in UAE at India Social and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, Justice Ramana said that the growing strong ties between the two countries will only grow in times to come and stronger bonds of friendship are bound to happen. To flourish and achieve new heights.

He said that a major reason for the strong ties between the two countries is that Indians are one of the largest ethnic groups in the UAE and have contributed significantly to the development of the UAE over the years.

Justice Ramanna, the 48th Chief Justice of India, is scheduled to address the fourth edition of Arbitration in the Era of Globalization, an international conference, in Dubai on Saturday.

Justice Ramana was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on April 6, 2021.
