India-Russia 2+2 Dialogue: Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to visit India on Sunday

New Delhi: Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit India on a two-day visit from December 5 to 6, ANI reported. The ministers will participate in the 2+2 ministerial dialogue between the two countries.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavorov would be visiting India on December 5 and 6. The minister will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and participate in the 2+2 ministerial talks between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had earlier said that the agenda of the two-plus-two format talks between the two countries would include “political and defense issues of mutual interest”. The two plus two ministerial talks are scheduled for December 6.

As reported by ANI, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, said that Russia and India will sign 10 bilateral agreements in several areas, including semi-confidential areas, after talks between Modi and Putin.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be the representatives from India while the Russian representatives who will participate in the talks will be External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Vladimir Putin will arrive in India on 6 December for the annual India-Russia summit.

The summit will be the first one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin after the non-BRICS meeting held in Brasilia in November 2019.

The last India-Russia summit was held in 2019 when PM Narendra Modi visited the city of Vladivostok, Russia.
