India records 9,119 fresh COVID-19 cases, marginally less than yesterday

India recorded 9,119 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 3,45,44,882, as per the data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, while the active cases came down to 1. 09,940, which is the lowest in 539 days.

The death toll rose to 4,66,980 with 396 fresh deaths, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 48 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 151 consecutive days.

The Health Ministry said that active cases comprise 0.32 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.33 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

A decrease of 1,541 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in the 24-hour period.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October. , 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and crossed the one crore mark on 19 December. India crossed the grim milestone of 20 million on 4 May and 30 million on 23 June.
