India promotes tolerance, inclusion and tackles divergence within the legal framework; No need for ‘selective outrage’ from outsiders: Ambassador

India promotes tolerance and inclusion and tackles any deviations within the legal framework, the country’s top envoy to the United Nations has said, amid condemnation of controversial comments made by a dozen Muslim countries “from outsiders”. Selective outrage” is not required. Against Prophet by now two suspended BJP functionaries. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti said this on Friday during a high-level event to celebrate the first anniversary of the International Day on the Role of Education to Address the Root Causes of Hate Speech and Advance Inclusion. ‘Non-discrimination and peace’.

Tirumurti said that India’s multicultural building has, over the centuries, made it a safe haven for all who seek refuge in India, whether from the Jewish community or Parsis or Tibetan or our own neighbourhood. He said that it is the inherent strength of our country which has with time faced extremism and terrorism.

It is with this sense of history that India Tirumurti said that it is playing a decisive role in combating radicalization and terrorism and promoting tolerance and inclusion. He said that discrepancies are dealt with within our legal framework and we do not need selective outrage from outsiders, especially when they are selfish – even communal in nature, and pursue a divisive agenda, They said.

The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Morocco and the United Nations Office on Responsibility for Genocide Prevention and Security. Tirumurti said the biggest defense against intolerance and hatred is to adopt the principles of democracy, where there are necessary checks and balances and where any deviation is addressed within the bounds of the rule of law.

Furthermore, a society based on pluralism, where every religion is respected, is an essential condition for tolerance and harmony. India has adopted both these principles – democracy and pluralism. And we call on all countries to adhere to these principles to ensure that intolerance is addressed within the constitutional framework.

Earlier in its month, more than a dozen Muslim countries, including Iraq, Libya, Malaysia and Turkey, condemned controversial remarks made against the Prophet by two suspended BJP functionaries. The BJP on June 5 suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled Delhi media chief Naveen Kumar Jindal after his controversial remarks against the Prophet.

Amid protests from Muslim groups over the remarks, the party issued a statement aimed at allaying the concerns of minorities and distancing itself from these members, saying it respects all religions and respects any religious personality. Strongly condemns the insult. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that India gives the highest respect to all religions.

The objectionable tweets and comments defaming a religious personality were made by some individuals. They do not reflect the views of the Government of India in any way. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson had said last week that strict action has already been taken against these persons by the concerned bodies.
