India flags off mutual recognition of CoWIN vaccine certificate, eases travel restrictions with Italy

During the economic cooperation meeting between the two countries, India flagged off issues such as mutual recognition of COWIN vaccine certificates, easing of travel restrictions and portability of social security benefits for Indians working in Italy, an official statement said on Saturday. is. The issues were raised during the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which was held virtually on 9 July. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio co-chaired the session.

“The Indian side raised the issues of mutual recognition of COWIN Vaccine Certificate and opening of travel restrictions, longer duration of business visas and portability of social security benefits for Indians working in Italy,” the commerce ministry said. The two sides discussed bilateral trade and investment and economic cooperation in the areas of food processing, textiles, leather, railways, promotion of start-ups and SMEs.

A government-to-business session focused on energy sharing was also held in the presence of the two ministers. During the meeting, three Indian companies – Indian Oil Corporation, Adani Solar, and Renew Power and three Italian firms – Enel Green Power, Snum, Maire Technimont – focused on the areas of green economy, clean technology and promoting the use of renewables.
