India-Central Asia Dialogue: Ministers express support for peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan

New Delhi: At the third India-Central Asia Dialogue on Sunday, India and five Central Asian countries called for immediate humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan, while emphasizing that Afghan territory can be used as shelter, training, planning and support for terrorist activities. or should not be used for financing.

The countries expressed their strong support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the war-torn country, news agency PTI reported.

Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the 3rd India-Central Asia Dialogue hosted by India in Delhi.

After the meeting, the participating countries issued a joint statement stating that “the Ministers reiterated their strong support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan, emphasizing respect for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and non-interference in its internal affairs.”

It said the ministers also discussed the current humanitarian situation and decided to continue providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

“The ministers reaffirmed the importance of UNSC resolution 2593 (2021), which explicitly demands that Afghan territory be used for harboring, training, planning or financing terrorist acts,” the statement said. and call for concrete action against all terrorist groups.”

It was also informed that the Ministers agreed to continue close consultations on the situation in Afghanistan.

Taking note of the outcome document of the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue of 10 November, the Ministers noted that there is a broad ‘regional consensus’ on issues relating to Afghanistan, including the formation of a genuinely representative and inclusive government. It also mentioned the role of the United Nations in Afghanistan by addressing the need to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, in addition to protecting the rights of women, children and other national ethnic groups.

In his inaugural address, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday called for finding ways to help the Afghan people.

“We all share deep historical and civilizational ties with Afghanistan. We have the same concerns and objectives in that country.”

He mentioned that a truly inclusive and representative government, the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid and protecting the rights of women, children and minorities were among the key priorities in Afghanistan.

“We must find ways to help the people of Afghanistan,” Jaishankar said.

The Union External Affairs Minister also said that India is committed to taking its relations with Central Asia to the next level.

They talked about the ‘Four C’ approach focusing on commerce, capacity building, connectivity and connectivity to further expand cooperation between the two sides.
