Experts draw comparison between de Villiers and Suryakumar
Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that AB is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game but Surya is more consistent
The entire cricket fraternity is talking about Suryakumar Yadav after yet another masterstroke on Saturday. Opening the batting against Sri Lanka in the third and final T20 at Rajkot, the right-handed batsman scored his 3 runs.third Hundred in the shortest format of the game. Surya played an unbeaten 112 off 51 balls. India posted 227/5 in their quota of 20 overs. In reply, a commendable bowling performance by Hardik Pandya and his boys bundled out the Lankans for just 137 runs.

Surya is often compared to AB de Villiers for his 360 degree approach to batting. It has been over 3 years since the former South African captain retired from the game, but his reference is always used to describe the prowess of the India batsman.
During a discussion on Cricbuzz after India’s win, former cricketer Ajay Jadeja said that AB is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen to have played the game, but Surya is more consistent.
“Suryakumar Yadav is one step ahead. Along with AB de Villiers, he is the best we have seen, no doubt about it. but his [Surya’s] Continuity is definitely higher. What he adds is the wrist work that AB didn’t have. Those shots were coming because of wrist work, either here or there. He has variations with the sweep as well. Whether it’s a full-arm sweep or just working the wrists, I think his wrists are better than the power that we often talk about,” Ajay Jadeja told Cricbuzz.

The former batsman drew comparisons between Surya and Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell, who is known for his muscle power. Jadeja said, ‘We have another example where we talk about Andre Russell. We enjoy when he hits hard but we have a guy who is scoring runs with a better strike rate and consistency. He has strength but he is not as strong as people nowadays want to be, but rather ‘Russell Strong’.
“He is playing with you; Not just with the ball, but he is playing with the bowler’s mind, the opposition and the field,” Jadeja concluded.
