IND vs SL 2nd Test: ‘Any ball can get you out’ – Hanuma Vihari considers batting on Bengaluru pitch

Test specialist Hanuma Vihari bats at a tricky turn at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Apart from Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, no other Indian batsman failed to score more than fifty in the second Test of the series. The Indian batsmen struggled against the spinners in the visiting camp as 16 of the 20 wickets were taken by them.

After the second day’s play, Vihari claimed that Bengaluru has the ability to take wickets in almost every ball on the challenging surface and felt it would be challenging for Lanka to bat on Monday.

“It was very challenging, any ball can get you out; It was that kind of wicket. I thought we batted well in both the innings. The way we bowled too. It was tough to bat on and it will be challenging for them (Sri Lanka) tomorrow as well.

Vihari has replaced Cheteshwar Pujara in India’s red-ball setup and has batted at No. Third place in the current Test series. The stylish batsman further spoke about his batting in Bengaluru and said that he got out on a good ball in the first innings, while admitting that he could have shown some patience in the second innings.

“I knew who to play and who to leave. I got a good ball in the first innings, but I think in the second innings I could have batted more patiently and taken such a big ball. Still, I was quite happy with the way I was batting.

The 28-year-old further said that it is easy to face spinners on Chinnaswamy’s surface and Team India was trying to avoid bowling on the second day, but it did not work out.

“It was easy to bat in the light against the spinners because of the dew, but it was challenging in both the innings. I knew the areas where I could score on this wicket and looked forward to those deliveries. We didn’t plan to bowl tonight. But with wickets falling, we thought we could bowl for 35-40 minutes and create problems for the Sri Lankan batsmen.
