IND vs SA, 1st T20I: Miller, van der Dussen power South Africa to 7-wicket win over India

David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen helped South Africa register a sensational 7-wicket win India At Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. It was a heart-wrenching defeat for India which were on the verge of breaking the world record for most consecutive wins in T20 cricket. Entering the match with 12 consecutive wins, a win helped India achieve a major milestone, however, Miller and van der Dussen spoiled the party for them.

Chasing a mammoth target of 212 runs, Miller and Van der Dussen made fun of the Indian bowlers by targeting the chase which once seemed too big to achieve. It was South Africa’s biggest target ever in T20I cricket.

Miller, who was in scintillating form in the IPL, continued it in the Proteas colours. The southpaw remained unbeaten on 64 off 31 balls, which included 5 sixes and 4 fours. He kept hitting boundaries at regular intervals to keep the scoreboard moving at a healthy pace.

While this was not the case with van der Dussen, who struggled to find boundaries during most of his innings, Harshal Patel’s 17th over turned fortunes for him as he scored the winning runs for his team in the final over. He hit three sixes and a four to complete his half-century as it also took a big jump in his strike rate. He scored 75 runs in 46 balls in which he hit 7 sixes and 5 fours.

South Africa began the chase with a positive outlook where Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma collected some early boundaries but they soon lost their wickets in their attempt. Dwayne Pretorius, who was promoted to bat at No. 3, played an impressive cameo as he smashed 29 off 13 balls to put pressure on the Indian bowlers. While a massive 131* run-stand between Miller and van der Dussen sealed the deal for South Africa, who now enjoy a 1-0 lead over the hosts.

Kishan struggled in the early stages of his innings but he showed the patience to get through the tough phase and then he left his mark on the bowlers. Meanwhile, Keshav Maharaj, Enrique Nortje, Wayne Parnell and Dwayne Pretorius shared a wicket each for South Africa.
