India’s stand-in captain Hardik Pandya gifted Ireland’s Harry Tector a bat after his scintillating half-century in a rain-hit T20 International on Sunday. Tector made an unbeaten 64 off 33 balls to take Ireland to 108 in 12 overs despite an initial setback. The home team were at 22 for 3 in the fourth over when Tector hit back at the Indian bowlers to take command of the innings. While Tector’s efforts eventually went in vain as the Indians managed to stick to the match, the performance made him a fan favorite in Hardik Pandya.
After the match, Tector received a bat from the stand-in Indian captain to hit some “more sixes” in the coming matches. Pandya said after the post, “He played some great shots, and obviously he’s 22, I’ve given him a bat too, so maybe he can hit a few more sixes and maybe get an IPL contract, And I wish him all the best.” -match.

Pandya said that with the right guidance and training, Tector had a bright future as well as could become a big name in the IPL and other T20 leagues across the world.
“Just take good care of her, give her the right guidance. It’s not always about cricket; It’s about understanding and putting your entire lifestyle at stake. If you can manage it, I’m sure he’s going to be around – not just in the IPL, but in all the leagues in the world,” Pandya said.

Tector shot to fame for the first time with his performance in ICC Under-19 World Cup 2018 where he was the second highest run-scorer for Ireland. He also claimed the most wickets for his team in the tournament.
A year later, he made his international debut for Ireland in a T20I game against Scotland in September 2019. This was followed by the start of ODI against England in July 2020.
Despite being an all-rounder, Tector is yet to bowl in international T20I cricket. In 33 international T20Is so far, the right-handed batsman has scored 604 runs at an average of 26.26 and strike rate of 132.74.
