Kerala witnessed a surge in coronavirus cases on Thursday as the state recorded 15,914 fresh COVID-19 cases and 122 deaths, taking the caseload to 46,80,885 and the toll to 25,087.

An official press release said that the number of people who have recovered from the infection since Wednesday stood at 16,758, taking the total number of recoveries to 45,12,662 and active cases to 1,42,529.

Among 14 districts, Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases with 2,332, followed by Thrissur (1,918), Thiruvananthapuram (1,855), Kozhikode (1,360), Kottayam (1,259), Alappuzha (1,120), Kollam (1,078) and Malappuram ( 942). )

Of the new cases, 76 were health workers, 74 from outside the state and 15,073 were infected through contact, the source of which was not clear in 691.

Maharashtra

Maharashtra recorded 3,063 new COVID-19 cases and 56 fresh deaths on Thursday, taking the number of infections to 65,50,856 and the toll to 1,39,067, a health department official said.

According to the health bulletin, 3,198 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the number of cured cases to 63,71,728.

Maharashtra now has 36,484 active cases.

Maharashtra’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.27 per cent, while the death rate stands at 2.12 per cent.

Of Maharashtra’s eight zones, Mumbai zone recorded 906 new COVID-19 cases, Pune 1,004, Nashik 677, Kolhapur 303, Latur 89, Aurangabad 57, Nagpur 19 and Akola zone eight.

According to the official, out of 56 fresh deaths, 11 are in Mumbai region, 24 in Nashik, nine in Pune, six each in Kolhapur and Latur region.

The other three regions – Aurangabad, Akola and Nagpur – reported no fresh coronavirus-related death, he said.

Mumbai saw 451 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths, while Pune city reported 211 infections and no deaths, the official said.
