Chennai: Tamil Nadu On Wednesday, 3,367 cases and 64 deaths were recorded, taking the cumulative case tally to 25.06 lakh and the toll to 33,196. After the state discharged 3,704 people from the registry, 34,076 people were still seeking treatment for the viral infection.
Meanwhile, the number of people taking the vaccine came down to 28,270 on Wednesday, from 51,532 on Tuesday and 1.7 lakh on Monday. While most vaccine centers remained closed till noon, the Center on Wednesday allowed the state immunization wing to collect 1.5 lakh doses from the general drugstore depot at Perimat. “Till 2 pm the vaccines were sent to the districts. While some northern districts used these vaccines for evening vaccination, most districts would be able to use them on Thursday,” said Dr K Vinay Kumar, joint director of immunization.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the fresh Covid-19 cases in all the districts were below 400. The western districts of Coimbatore, Erode and Salem reported 385, 288 and 214 cases. Less than 200 cases were reported in all other districts. While Thanjavur and Tiruppur reported 198 and 197 cases each, Chennai reported 196 new cases and Trichy 142 cases. At least 27 districts reported cases in double digits. perambalur
(19), Tenkasi (17) and Ramanathapuram (13) reported less than 20 cases.
Of the 64 deaths, Chennai reported six and Madurai and Theni five each. While Coimbatore reported four, Trichy reported three. Eight districts reported zero deaths and 19 reported one death each.
