Imran Khan Cry: The Islamabad High Court on Friday granted two-week bail to former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan in a corruption case. Earlier on May 9, Khan was arrested by the Rangers from outside the Islamabad court in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. Earlier in the day, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused PTI chief Khan and his party of pushing the cash-strapped country towards “destruction”. Also, he described Khan’s party as a “liar”.

Sharif’s reaction came on a day Imran Khan appeared before the Islamabad High Court for bail. Addressing the federal cabinet, Sharif also questioned the court’s silence on the jailing of leaders of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party during Khan’s tenure. Sharif also termed PTI’s main claim that his government was ousted due to a US-backed conspiracy as ‘untrue’.

Sharif targets PTI

The PM of Pakistan said that the chairman of PTI and the people of his party are ‘liars’ and are pushing Pakistan towards ‘destruction’. He further claimed that more than one National Security Committee has declared Khan’s allegations as false.

“The currency is navigating through difficult times, and the challenges we have inherited are contributing greatly to the worsening of the situation,” Pakistani media quoted Sharif as saying.

Widespread protests in Pakistan

Sharif’s remarks came in the wake of widespread protests on Tuesday over Khan’s arrest at the IHC, where he appeared for trial in a corruption case.

Sharif said that the PTI protesters insulted the martyrs of the country in a way that even our enemies did not do. “Attacks on military installations… there cannot be a bigger form of terrorism in the country,” he said.
