Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has said that the lack of bilateral series between India and Pakistan is one of the reasons why their colleagues find it difficult to deal with pressure when facing their Indian counterparts in ICC tournaments.

According to Imam-ul-Haq, current Indian players seem more equipped to deal with pressure in multi-nation tournament matches versus Pakistan, which he considers to be the biggest difference between the two sides.

Imam-ul-Haq was speaking to Sama TV, where he admitted that Pakistan’s team is not capable of handling pressure when they face India in World Cup games. He further said that the upcoming match between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup will be “tough”, and barring the players’ experience, nothing separates the sides.

Significantly, Pakistan has not been able to beat India in the Cricket World Cup since its inception in 1975. So far in the 50-over World Cup, there have been seven matches between the two teams and India has won all of them. Apart from this, there were five T20 World Cup matches between India and Pakistan. India have won four, while one Super Over ended in a tie before India won.

Pakistan and India will take on each other in the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in UAE after the IPL is over. The ICC announced the matches for the World T20 last month and India and Pakistan, placed in Group 2, will begin their campaign in Dubai on October 24.

The last time India and Pakistan met each other in an ICC tournament was back in the 2019 World Cup, where India defeated arch-rivals by 89 runs.
