IMA seeks quashing of order easing COVID protocols from Kerala on account of Bakrid, prompts SC to move

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) demanded the Kerala government to withdraw its move of easing COVID-19 restrictions ahead of Bakrid or Eid ul Adha. The IMA had called such a move “unfair and unwarranted” when the state was dealing with an emergency situation.

The leading doctors’ association has threatened to move the Supreme Court if the Kerala government does not implement COVID-appropriate practices to contain the growing menace of the virus by revoking its relaxation in COVID norms during the Eid ul Adha festival.

“The IMA is pained to note that amidst rising cases and seropositivity, the Government of Kerala has issued an order easing the lockdown in the state on the pretext of religious celebrations of Bakrid. This is unwarranted and unwarranted at this time of medical emergency. . ,” the official statement read.

It said that while several northern states have put a halt to the traditional and popular pilgrimage (Kanwar Yatra) in the wake of the pandemic, it is disappointing that Kerala took a decision that would allow crowds to gather.

He said that these establishments can function only in D category areas from July 19.

The chief minister had allowed a maximum of 40 persons on special occasions of festivals or places of worship.
