IIT Madras, Israel Govt Collaborates To Establish India-Israel Centre of Water Technology

The Governments of India and Israel will work to enhance cooperation in specific areas of capacity building of Indian water professionals through the India-Israel Water Technology Center.

Government of Israel is partnering with India Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) To set up ‘India – Israel Center for Water Technology’ (CoWT) in Water Resource Management and Water Technology at IIT Madras.

Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, Prof. A letter of intent was signed by V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras and Mr. Nour Gillon. In the presence of the Ambassador of Israel to India, Sh. S. Jaishankar and Shri Eli Cohen, Hon’ble Foreign Ministers of India and Israel respectively, Prof. In the presence of T. Pradeep, Institute Professor, IIT Madras.

Israel, a strategic partner of India, is a global leader in integrated water resources management. MoHUA will collaborate with MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, to set up this new centre, which will be located at IIT Madras. A key objective of this new center will be to ensure the implementation of Israel’s best technologies for Indian needs and work on sustainable management solutions for Indian waters.

Talking about this partnership between India and Israel, Dr. Lior Assaf, Water Attaché, Israel said, “The partnership with IIT Madras is very important and along with our partners in the central government (AMRUT) and IITM, we Let’s work together for the better. India’s water resources will be managed with a focus on the introduction of new state-of-the-art Israeli technology and know-how in a more sustainable manner.

The center will help the ‘AMRUT’ mission to pursue joint activities to achieve its goals and implement technical solutions through separate agreements. The CoWT will also work towards mutual exchange of technology, scientific information, literature and discuss various issues in the field with experts from both countries to address problems in drinking water and sewerage management and develop new areas of intervention. Highlighting the importance of this centre, Director, IIT Madras, Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “We consider this as one of our most important collaborations working on the conservation and judicious use of nature’s greatest gift to mankind – water.” The Governments of India and Israel will work towards enhancing cooperation in specific areas of capacity building of Indian water professionals at all levels through the India-Israel Water Technology Centre, showcasing projects with latest technologies and an exhibition of Israeli water companies. ,

Elaborating on the envisaged outcomes, Prof. T. Pradeep, Institute Professor and Deepak Parekh Institute Chair Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras said, “India’s water security depends on the implementation of advanced and affordable technologies as well as efficient management of environmental resources. There is much to learn from Israel, a pioneer in this field under the guidance of the AMRUT mission.”

The two governments will jointly identify specific projects related to integrated water resource management, urban water supply and non-revenue water, water and sewage recycling, IoT solutions and online monitoring, water harvesting, smart data management and AI. also have intentions.
