IIT Delhi to host competition among robots made by engineering colleges

Indian Institute technology (IIT) Delhi will host Doordarshan Robocon or DD Robocon after a gap of two years due to the pandemic. It is an inter-institution, national level robot competition in which robots compete to complete tasks within a specified period of time. This year’s theme is ‘Lagori’, a sport that originated in South India.

Out of around 80 teams from registered engineering colleges, 43 teams will be shortlisted for DD Robocon, which will be held in two phases. About 750 participants will participate in this program. This year’s DD-Robocon will be followed by its international show – ABU-Robocon on 21st August, in which teams from 12 countries will participate.

Theme, Lagori was one of the most popular games India Around the 1990s, the official website added. “The history of the game can be found in the Bhagavata Purana, a Hindu religious text written about 5000 years ago. It is mentioned that Lord Krishna played this game with his friends. The game is between two teams (Team 1: “Seekers” and Team 2: “Hitters”) and the game begins with Seeker throwing a ball to break a stone tower called “Lagori” (see picture below). While the seekers again try to stack the stones, the hitter throws the ball to obstruct them,” the website notified.

“The competition aims to build friendships between young people with similar interests who will lead their countries in the 21st century, as well as help advance engineering and broadcasting technologies in the region,” the official website reads.

More than 150 professors, technical staff and students of IIT Delhi and its neighboring colleges like JNU, Jamia Millia, AKG College, GL Bajaj have voluntarily organized this mega event. IIT Delhi in association with Prasar Bharati will host this year’s DD-Robcon.

The event will be held at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi and is technically supported and managed by two non-profit companies of IIT Delhi – Foundation for Smart Manufacturing (FSM) and i-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC). technology Innovation Hub of the Institute as Knowledge Partners.
