IIT Delhi, Education Ministry Hosts Workshop On Mental Health, Stress Management

IIT Delhi and Ministry of Education aim to provide valuable insights from well-known mental health experts, professionals and eminent speakers

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhiorganized a workshop on mental health and stress management on 30th May. It began at 2 pm in the Senate Room of the Main Administrative Building of IIT Delhi. The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and primarily focused on addressing the pressing issue of mental health among students. The symposium came out with strategies for dealing with stress in academic and personal settings.

Through this event, IIT Delhi and the Ministry of Education aim to provide valuable insights from renowned mental health experts, professionals and eminent speakers. The symposium revolved around four major themes:

  • Importance of communication – parents, students, faculty; Use of AI/ML.
  • Psychiatry, counseling, outreach, event organization.
  • Governance Reforms – Capacity Building, Grievance Redressal, Evaluation, Ownership
  • Curriculum Improvement and Implementation – Yoga and Meditation Methods, Stress Management, Experiential Sessions, etc.

Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, delivered the welcome address, which was followed by presentations by top subject experts. Several participating institutes such as Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS), National Institute of Technology (NIIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) participated in the symposium. ), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Xavier School of Management (XLRI) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

On the other hand, IIT Madras started a wellness session series for its students which started on April 19. The series was announced as part of several initiatives taken by the institute to provide an environment filled with peace and harmony to the students.

With the launch of this series, IIT Madras plans to raise awareness about mental health issues among students. They also aim to have experts in the relevant field talk about the many options available to the candidates while addressing the issue and reducing the stress if experienced.

As per reports, the program at IIT Madras is being organized through meetings by renowned professionals for students across the state in collaboration with the National Health Mission (NHM), Department of Health and Family Welfare (DHFW) and Government of Tamil Nadu.
