‘If You Score 100 Runs In the First 20 Overs, Then…’-Ruturaj Gaikwad Gives Suggestion For Scoring Double Century in ODIs

CHENNAI: Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is keen to make a mark across all formats and said he is working hard in his endeavour.

“Though I have scored runs in T20 cricket, I want to play and do well in the 50-over format and Tests as well. Only then one’s cricket career will be complete,” said the 25-year-old batsman, who brought up his recent double century in victory by smashing a List ‘A’ record seven sixes in a single over off Uttar Pradesh left-arm spinner Shiva Singh in the Hazare Trophy.

Gaikwad, who starred in CSK’s title win in IPL 2021 with over 600 runs, said he was looking forward to the next season (of the IPL) and hoped the franchise would bounce back after a poor performance in 2022.

“The Chennai Super Kings team is preparing for the 2023 IPL season. There will probably be training camps after the players are auctioned. In the 2022 season, the team was plagued by injuries to key players. T20 matches are decided on the basis of the performance of the players. “We will be back this season,” Gaikwad, who has so far played one ODI and nine T20 Internationals for the country, said on the sidelines of an event organized by Urban Hangout Social in the city.

The stylish right-handed batsman, who has played for India A in matches against New Zealand and Maharashtra in recent domestic tournaments, said, “I want to play with more focus. My aim is to score more runs in the big matches. I work on thinking how to play well for the team and win.”

Gaikwad further said that a team needs a strong middle-order to score around 100 runs in the first 20 overs in ODIs in order to post a big score.

He said, ‘If you score 100 runs in the first 20 overs in ODIs, you can reach a big score. Along with this, batting should also be strong in the middle order.
