The counting of votes for the assembly elections will begin in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh from 8 am today. First the postal ballot will be counted. Counting of EVM votes will start from 9 am. Counting centers have been set up at 10 places for 10 seats in the district. A total of 67 candidates are in the fray for 10 seats in the district.

Counting of votes will be done in 8 to 10 rounds for all the seats. The maximum number of rounds of counting for Siraj seat will be 10, while the minimum number of rounds for counting of votes for Sarkaghat seat will be 6. The result of Sarkaghat seat of the district is expected to come first by 11 am. The result of Chief Minister Jairam Thakur’s Seraj seat will be available at the last till 12:30 pm.

This time 75.31% voting

During the voting held on November 12, a total of 75.31% voting took place in the district. A total of 3,08,283 male voters and 3,30,686 female voters cast their votes in the poll. 2 votes belong to the third gender. The highest voting took place in Siraj assembly seat and the lowest in Sarkaghat assembly seat.

Apart from Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, Congress veteran Kaul Singh Thakur and late Pandit Sukhram’s son Anil Sharma are among the big faces in fray this time from 10 Mandi seats. Jairam Thakur is contesting from his traditional seat Siraj while Anil Sharma is contesting from Mandi seat on BJP ticket.

Kaul Singh Thakur is the Congress candidate from Drang. In BJP, Praveen Sharma from Mandi Sadar seat, Gyan Chand from Nachan seat and Abhishek Thakur from Sundernagar seat are contesting as rebels. Jasveer Singh has also contested as an independent after not getting Congress ticket from Nachan seat.

10 place strong room

After the polling on November 12, strong rooms have been set up at a total of 10 places for Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for 10 seats in the district. Paramilitary force is deployed outside these strong for 24 hours since 12th November. As per the instructions of the Election Commission, after the completion of the counting, all the EVMs will be sent to the district headquarters, where they will be kept safe for 45 days.
