e-labor It is an initiative by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to organize the unorganized sector. The platform recently announced that around 20 crore workers in the age group of 16 to 56 from various unorganized sectors have registered on it. e-shram portal, Launched in September 2021, e-Shram is a data accumulation and identification tool that will help the government to plan, formulate and spread schemes and benefits across multiple sectors.

The registration for the e-Shram card is done on the portal itself, where various details are added to the successful generation of the card. However, these cards are distributed only to those who fill in credible information and may face any possible scrutiny in the future. The card represents and holds a Universal Account Number (UAN) which is a permanent document that is valid for a lifetime.

But there are some discrepancies which may result in cancellation or rejection of registration. To avoid hurdles in the registration process, make sure your profession is listed in the National Classification of Occupation. The concoction has jobs that act as the building blocks of the unorganized sector. This includes sectors such as agriculture, household and household, apparel, construction, manufacturing, etc.

Another factor that can lead to cancellation of registration is wrong application form with non-credible details. Make sure you have filled your business, annual income and bank account details correctly. This also includes avoiding forgery of details to capitalize on benefits from someone else’s credentials. In addition to cancellation, such a deed may result in a fraud lawsuit.

The National e-Shram Portal was launched by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to create a database of workers engaged in the unorganized sector of the country. The definition of unorganized workers was also clarified by the ministry.

According to this, any worker who is at home, self-employed or works on wage basis is considered as an unorganized labourer. Further, any person working in an organized sector, but not a member of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) or Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), can also be treated as an unorganized employee.
