ICC U-19 World Cup 2022: Pakistan enter quarterfinals, England record third straight win

Pakistan join England in the Super League quarter-finals while defending champions Bangladesh bounced back after defeating Canada. England beat the United Arab Emirates, now facing a crunch game against Bangladesh, to decide who will join Tom Prest’s men in the quarter-finals from Group A.

Afghanistan are in a similar position after doing much to chase down 240 to beat Pakistan and will have to beat Zimbabwe on Saturday to progress from Group C to the top two.

Perst grew up with England’s re-win

England captain Prest’s unbeaten 154 helped his team to a comfortable 189-run win over the United Arab Emirates.

Perst won the toss and elected to bat at Warner Park and after coming in at No. 3, the Hampshire batsman smashed 13 fours and four sixes in just 119 balls as his team posted 362 for six.

England bowled out UAE for 173 to cement their place as Group A winners as they reached the Super League quarter-finals with their 100 percent record.

Defending champions Bangladesh make a comeback against Canada

2020 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup winners Bangladesh bounced back from a loss to England in their opening match with an impressive eight-wicket win over Canada.

Holders was dismissed for 97 against the Young Lions in their opener, but was fielded by Canada at Conari Sports Club in St Kitts and Nevis.

He did better with the ball, however, as Canadian opener and wicketkeeper Anup Cheema scored 63 off 117 balls, but received little support from his teammates.

Prantik Navroz Nabil scored 33 while Aich Mulla scored an unbeaten 20 off 26 balls with a six off Gurnek Johal Singh to seal the win as Bangladesh won with 119 balls to spare.

The defending champions will now face a straight shoot-out against UAE on Saturday to see who will join England in the Super League quarter-finals.

Pakistan Qualify for Quarter Finals as Afghanistan Delay Too Late

Pakistan booked their place in the Super League quarter-finals after registering two wins out of two with a 24-run win over Afghanistan.

At the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, Pakistan captain Qasim Akram chose to bat first and his team built a solid platform.

Opener Mohammad Shahzad lost his teammate Hasibullah Khan for just two runs but scored 43 runs in 51 balls.

Shahzad shared a 60-run partnership with No. 3 Abdul Fasih, who scored 68 off 95 balls, with skipper Qasim scoring 38 from No. 5.

But when Izharulhaq Naveed scored three for 41, removed Fasih, Pakistan lost three for 11 and were in danger of not having enough runs to post 184 for seven.

But Maz Sadaqat hit an unbeaten 42 off 37 balls, including seven fours, as his team reached 239 for nine in 50 overs.

In reply, Afghanistan misjudged the pace of their innings as the top three soaked up too many deliveries in their chase.

It took him 170 balls to make 100 runs with strike rates under Bilal Saeedi, 42 in 81, Nangeliya Kharote, 12 off 32, and Allah Noor, 49 in 28, 58.

Despite a slow start, Afghanistan deepened the competition, though their innings was characterized by some wild running between the wickets, with three run outs as well as numerous lapses.

Noor Ahmed smashed three sixes to give his team a stunning victory, requiring 28 runs from the last two overs with two wickets in hand.

But when he was dismissed for 29 off just 18 balls, the bowlers’ choice of three for 36, only one was going to be the winner and after scoring 215 for nine, Afghanistan were now in for a winner-take. Must be ready -all clash against Zimbabwe on Saturday.
