Hyundai Creta gets 3-star GNCAP safety rating, same as Seltos

New Delhi: The new Creta has been tested by Global NCAP and has got a 3-star rating. The Creta being used for testing is in the original spec with two airbags. Global NCAP currently tests frontal crash safety for passengers and overall star rating for the Creta and the i20 has been rated as fair by Global NCAP.

A 3-star rating means a good safety rating, while it should be noted that the top-spec Creta gets a pre-tensioner rear-middle belt and 6 airbags and more safety features. The base model Creta was used for testing. The rating is for the safety of adult and child occupants, with reports showing good/sufficient protection for the upper body of both occupants while weak protection in the lower half is said to be marginal.

In fact the driver head/occupant head enjoys good protection overall, while the lack of ISOFIX also means 3-star child occupant protection. Hyundai’s i20 was also tested with 2 frontal airbags and ABS.

The rating of the Creta is similar to that of the Seltos which also got a 3 star safety rating. Currently, the top-end model gets six airbags while the executive version of the SX gets ISOFIX etc.

Global NCAP says that safety systems like ESC and side body and head protection airbags should come as a basic requirement in India and six airbags may also be standard in future – hence increasing the safety of the cars we buy.

The order for 6 airbags to be standard states that M1 class cars made from October 1 will be standard with six airbags. This will increase the cost of cars that do not offer 6 airbags at all and will need replacement. However, the Creta/i20 offers 6 airbags with its top-end trim levels.
