How the world is protesting, from the Arab Spring to the anti-Covid stir. Outlook India Magazine

Around the world, protest movements take shape as citizens challenge the established order. Some history changes. Others are crushed. But there are some rare ones that capture the imagination of the world. The desperate suicide of a young man in Tunisia in December 2010 did exactly what was expected of change in the Arab world.

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is another iconic movement of our time – a fight for justice in America that resonated among young migrants in Europe who saw their plight reflected in it. While the BLM has brought to the fore latent divisions in American society and politics, Joe Biden’s election victory can also be attributed to the BLM’s mobilization of black voters and his determination to oust Donald Trump from the White House.
