62 kg heroin seized at Indira Gandhi International Airport Heroin worth Rs 434 crore has been recovered from the cargo complex of the airport, officials said. This heroin was brought to India hidden in 126 trolley bags. The special thing is that this is one of the biggest heroin seizures ever through air mode. The DRI had received an input regarding this consignment of drugs. After this the team started the operation on 10 May, this operation was named ‘Black and White’.

50 lakh cash also recovered
According to the information, when the team reached the spot, 55 kg heroin was recovered from a trolley bag kept in a cargo. These drugs were brought from Uganda to Delhi via Dubai. The DRI team has also detained an accused from the spot after seizing the heroin. After questioning the accused, the team raided several places in Punjab and Haryana, in which 7 kg heroin and Rs 50 lakh cash were also found.

In this entire operation, the DRI has seized 62 kg of drugs so far. Its value in the illegal market is estimated to be around 434 crores. The team said that 330 trolley bags were kept in the cargo. The seized heroin was hidden inside the hollow metal of 126 trolley bags.

3,300 kg heroin was seized in 2021
According to the information, the DRI had seized about 3,300 kg of heroin across the country in the year 2021. On the other hand, if we talk about this year, the team has recovered 34 kg heroin in Delhi, 201 kg from Mundra Port and 392 kg from Pipavav Port since January 2022. Also, several cases of drug smuggling have also been registered in the last 3 months, due to which more than 60 kg of heroin has been confiscated from air passengers.
