The lawsuit came after news broke that Baldwin and Rust’s crew had been accused of breaking at least four major film industry gun safety protocols prior to the fatal shooting of Hutchins.

Baldwin and his co-workers seem to have violated the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees’ rules against pointing a gun at a cast or crew member, unless absolutely necessary.

Coalition rules – last revised in April 2003 – warning: ‘Refrain from firing a gun at anyone, including yourself. If it is absolutely necessary to do this on camera, consult the property owner or other security representative… remember that the object you point the gun at may be destroyed.’

Baldwin is said to have broken that rule by pointing a gun at Hutchins and shooting him, killing him moments before the gun ‘cooled down’ – rounds empty.

Guidance stipulates that live ammunition should never be brought onto set, with the document warning ‘blanks can kill’.

It continues: ‘Treat all firearms as if they were loaded. “Living ammunition” should never be used or brought onto the studio lot or stage.’

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office says they believe a live round was loaded into the gun that killed 42-year-old Hutchins on October 21.

They continue to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy, amid recent claims that the bullet that killed Hutchins may have been intentionally loaded into the gun.
