Hefty Fines for Youths with Beards, No DJs at Weddings: Gujarat Community’s ‘Reform’ Resolutions

A meeting of the Anjana community of 54 villages was held in Ghanera on Sunday, in which 22 “reform proposals” were passed and adopted to bring about social reform.

The Anjana Chowdhary community in Gujarat’s Banaskantha has proposed a ban on DJs at weddings and a ban on youth growing beards.

The community has brought about social reforms in 54 villages in Ghanera taluka of Banaskantha and has set an example for other communities.

A meeting of the Anjana community of 54 villages was held in Ghanera on Sunday in which 22 “reform resolutions” were passed and adopted to bring about social reforms.

The community also decided that the violators will be asked to pay a heavy fine which in some cases even goes up to one lakh rupees.

Youths will have to pay a fine of Rs 51,000 if they are found keeping beard.

During the community meeting, Shikarpura’s Gadhipati Dayaramji Maharaj said that among the Hindus, only sages and saints have to grow beard and it does not look good when the youth of the society grows beard. “That’s why he should not grow a beard. That’s why youths who roam around with beards have been warned against and asked to get rid of them.”

Other decisions of the community include banning the consumption of luxury items on the 12th and 13th day of the mourning period in case of death in the Chaudhary-Anjana community, calling on caterers to cook and serve a party, calling on a DJ. Expensive cards should be printed for weddings, birthday celebrations in hotels and weddings.
