Heavy Rain Disrupts Mumbai Local Service, Over 100 Trains Cancelled Due To Waterlogging

Heavy rains in Maharashtra have disrupted train services in Mumbai and adjoining areas of Kalyan and Thane. Central Railway canceled 100 suburban services (Mumbaa local), 80 on main line and 20 on harbor line. Besides this, 10 Mumbai-Pune trains were also canceled due to severe water-logging on railway tracks. Various trains were canceled since morning on 19 July due to water-logging on the Ambernath-Badlapur section. Traffic was restored late in the evening, while several trains were canceled and diverted in the process.

Central Railway tweeted, “Kalyan-Kasara section normalized at 17.25 hrs. Fault rectified at all points at Kalyan station. Ambernath-Badlapur Down section normalized at 17.50 hrs. (Badlapur-Ambernath Up section restored).” Rain lashed parts of Mumbai amid an orange alert on Wednesday, disrupting local train services beyond Kalyan in neighboring Thane district, diverting some express trains and canceling some services between Mumbai and Pune.

Central Railway said it has diverted some mail and express trains from Diva-Panvel-Karjat route and Daund-Manmad route, besides short-termining and canceling some trains between Mumbai and Pune. Thousands of commuters were inconvenienced due to the disruption. As trains continued to crawl or stand on the tracks, several commuters were seen walking on the rail lines to reach the nearest station.
