‘He is preparing ready material and sending it to the Indian team’

The BCCI had recently invited applications for the post of head coach in the NCA as Rahul Dravid’s tenure is about to end. Interestingly, even after the T20 World Cup, Ravi Shastri’s tenure with Team India is coming to an end. But now it is widely being reported that Dravid has reapplied for his NCA post.

Dravid is credited with building a strong supply chain for the Indian team in recent years, and many have supported him to continue in that role. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that Dravid is the right move if he has reapplied for the post.

Speaking on his YouTube video, Butt said, “Dravid is not only serving junior Indian cricket by working with the NCA. He recently took a team to Sri Lanka and they won a series (ODIs) there. That’s it. Preparing ready-made material and sending it to the Indian team. I would say he is leading an industry that is supplying players to Indian cricket. What more do you need?”

Not only this, former Australia spinner Brad Hogg also backed Dravid to continue in the role. “The NCA coach has a vital role to play for the development and transformation of the upcoming players for international cricket. Perhaps a more important role than the Indian head coach. Countries with strong academies are usually at the top of the ICC ladder. Dravid should stay in that role,” Hogg had tweeted.

Recently, Dravid coached the Indian team that toured Sri Lanka. There, even with inexperienced players, India managed to win the ODI series 2–1, while they lost the T20Is 1-2. After the series, some experts had predicted that Dravid might play India soon, but that doesn’t seem to be happening right now.
