The Calcutta High Court on Monday allowed the West Bengal Board of Primary Education to file an appeal against its order canceling the appointment of around 36,000 primary teachers in state government-sponsored and aided schools.

Board’s counsel Lakshmi Gupta mentioned the matter before a division bench headed by Justice Subrata Talukdar and sought the court’s permission to challenge the May 12 order of the single bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay. The division bench, also comprising Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, allowed the board to file an appeal.

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Friday ordered the Appointment of about 36 thousand candidates canceled who were untrained at the time of their recruitment as primary teachers in schools sponsored and aided by the Government of West Bengal, as due process was not followed in the recruitment process. Passing the order, Justice Gangopadhyay said that “corruption of this magnitude” was never known in West Bengal.

However, the single bench directed that the teachers who got employment after the board’s recommendation regarding the 2016 selection process, would be allowed to work for four months. 12 May on remuneration equal to that of a primary school teacher, The court had also directed the board to arrange for the recruitment process within three months only for the candidates who had participated in the 2016 recruitment process. During this, the candidates who qualify the training will also be included in the exercise.
