Happy Birthday Devdutt Padikkal: Top innings of young cricketer in IPL

Happy Birthday Devdutt Padikkal: Devdutt Paddikal made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore with a fifty in his first match. In the season, the southpaw scored 473 runs with five half-centuries. Superb form cemented Padikkal’s place in RCB’s star-studded batting lineup. Success in the IPL fast-tracked Paddikal’s career and he went on to make his international debut against Sri Lanka last year. He was a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022. As he celebrates his 22nd birthday today, here is a brief rundown of his top performances in the IPL.

54 vs Delhi Capitals, 2022

In what can only be described as a run-fest of a match, Devdutt Paddikal scored his maiden half-century for Rajasthan Royals. Opening the innings with Jos Buttler in match number 34 of IPL 2022, the southpaw scored 44 off 35 balls to give his team a solid start. Rajasthan scored 222 runs and eventually won the match by 15 runs despite some fear from the Delhi Capitals batsmen.

101 vs Rajasthan Royals, 2021

Paddikal’s first IPL ton came against Rajasthan Royals, a team he now plays for, in the 2021 season. Opening the innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Padikkal scored 101 runs in just 52 balls in reply to Rajasthan’s target of 178 runs. He, along with Virat Kohli, played an unbeaten knock of 182 runs to guide Bangalore to an easy victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

56 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2020

Paddikal announced his arrival in scintillating fashion, scoring a half-century in his first match for RCB. Paddikal scored 56 off 42 balls, while opening 90 with Aaron Finch. His innings included eight fours. Based on a solid start, RCB scored 163 runs on the board and eventually won the game by 10 runs.

74 vs Mumbai Indians, 2020

Paddikal remained on top in his first season and ended the tournament with 473 runs. Paddikal’s highest score of the season, 74, came against Mumbai Indians. Taking charge of RCB’s innings, Paddikal scored 74 runs in 45 balls at a strike rate of over 164. The innings included 12 fours and a maximum. However, the innings went into a losing streak as Mumbai chased down RCB’s 164 with five balls to spare.

48 vs DC, 2022

After an early fall to inform Jos Buttler against Delhi, Rajasthan were backed by a flexible partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Paddikal. Though both made a slow start, the partnership took Rajasthan to 160. Ashwin scored a half-century and Paddikal scored 48 runs in 30 balls. However, the match went in Delhi’s favor as they chased down a total with 10 balls to spare.
